Tuwa Meaning & Philosophy

Tuwa is the Hopi Indian word for earth or mother-earth. The original American Indian culture was surrounded by the love for all plants and animals including the land. They used every resource wisely and created some of the first natural remedies from the resources the earth had to offer. It's our belief that they were the first real earth stewards of North America. They were also the predecessors to what we now call the natural, organic and sustainable lifestyle movement. No group of people personified this better than the Hopis. Our belief is that we can use the lessons of the Hopis. A move away from chemical and artificial products that pollute our bodies and the environment. A resurgence of preserving the planet through cooperation and respect.

TuwA is pronounced as "Too-ah"

Our TuwA logo was designed to represent a modern sunflower and at the same time highlight our passion for:

• Natural and organic ingredients to heal people and planet
• Power of the sun and its ability to create life and energy
• The rotating cycle of life for plants, animals & humans alike

Mission Statement

We believe strongly in the triple bottom line of people, planet & profit. In fact, it's the core of our TuwA Points™ reward program. Our endeavors are geared towards the future of healthy and sustainable living for all people on the planet. Our goals are propelled by the belief that we can:

1. Provide a wide range of quality products and information to help people live healthy and sustainable lives in harmony with the earth.
2. Create an online community for idea sharing and education to promote living sustainably with the use of green technologies, processes and products.
3. Develop a comprehensive marketplace for green entrepreneurs and manufacturers to showcase their products in order to increase demand and leverage pricing.

Products

We carefully study the products we carry for their health benefits for people and sustainable manufacturing for the planet. All items that we present to our customers must meet at least one of our minimum requirements per category:

Healthy (People)

• Must reduce a users exposure to chemicals and byproducts
• Must reduce a users exposure to unhealthy environments
• Enables user to become more physically and spiritually healthy
• Natural and Organic items must be free of petro-chemicals, synthetics, artificial colors, artificial fragrances, artificial colorings and artificial preservatives
  
• Personal Care products list ALL ingredients (any item applied to the body)
• Pet food and treats must list ALL ingredients
  
• Cleaning agents must list ALL ingredients
  

Sustainable (Planet)

• Ingredients use material from post-consumer waste or help divert waste from a landfill
  
• Recycled products use a minimum of 35% post-consumer waste and recycle content is disclosed
• Ingredients are from renewable sources
  
• Manufacturer has implemented or is implementing processes to reduce or offset CO2 and mitigate its impact on the environment
  
• Must have an offsetting factor (example: a solar panel is not made with recycled plastic, but it will utilize the suns energy and diverts the need for electricity from a polluting source)

Other

• Manufacturers and suppliers are giving back to their communities, charities or non-profit organizations geared to helping people and planet (including pets & wildlife)

So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin. Teach your children what we have taught our children, that the earth is our mother.
