All natural Milk Paint is one of the most eco friendly paints in the world. This all natural non toxic paint has been made from homemade formulas which usually were handed down from generation to generation. The original milk paint was made from curdled cheese or cottage cheese, lime and an earth pigment for the coloration. This natural milk paint has lasted on surfaces for many years and can still be seen on old barns, houses and furniture.

Natural Milk Paint is completely non toxic with literally no VOC’s or odor and is 100% biodegradable. It bonds to many unfinished surfaces, but metal, plastics and oil-based finishes should be avoided. Natural Milk Paint is a popular finish for antique furniture, custom woodwork, sculptures, artwork and many other unfinished items that require a soft, warm finish.

This eco friendly paint comes in powder form that you mix with water. The Milk Paint powder will last virtually a lifetime, so no need to worry about dried up cans of paint. The unique finish of this natural milk paint allows you to apply a custom finish to any wall. The paint dries to a slightly transparent tint which gives you a softer more inviting finish. Natural Milk Paint comes in powder form. One quart equals 2.5 cups and should be mixed with water at a ratio of one to one. We recommend using luke warm water and a glass or metal container in which to mix. Allow the eco friendly paint to stand for several minutes and then check the consistency. Once mixed with water, milk paint will cover 35 sq. ft. per pint (70 sq. ft. per quart and 280 sq. ft. per gallon). The paint will work best immediately after it’s mixed but can last up to two weeks to a month if sealed properly. Add water carefully if too thick and add powder if too thin. Make sure all surfaces are clean and free of wax or other contaminates.

Natural Milk Paint, once mixed with water, will cover 35 sq. ft. per pint (70 sq. ft. per quart and 280 sq. ft. per gallon). A finish may be applied over the top of milk paint. We recommend all natural Tung Oil. As always, test a small, inconspicuous area to see how a top finish will affect the color. Other finishes will also work, but always test for colorfastness prior to beginning.

Natural Milk Paint can be used on exterior applications. It should be applied and left to cure for two weeks without moisture or precipitation. The eco friendly paint will strengthen as air born moisture passes through it. We recommend the use of a natural bristle paint brush. Additional coats may be added 3 to 4 hours after application. Wait 24 hours before applying a top finish coat.
