| Pure dark Tung Oil is a completely natural oil which is produced from
cold pressing the seeds or nuts of the Tung tree. This darker Tung Oil is the highest quality oil
available. It is rated as a grade one
oil which has the highest flexibility rating, superior coloring, and fastest
drying times. The flexibility is
critical as it allows for expansion and contraction during changes in
temperature and humidity. It has a very
light “nutty” order without the harmful fumes of polyurethane. Tung Oil can also seal other counter tops such
as concrete and stone. A great
alternative to toxic silicone based sealers and impregnators. It dries to a matte finish. Another great use for Tung Oil is as a
natural rust inhibitor for metal.
This natural dark Tung Oil is a superior, non-toxic finish for wood floors, counter tops, decks, cabinets, and other wood surfaces. Pure Tung Oil is also the safest finish for
your outdoor wood furniture such as teak or eucalyptus. It dries quickly and unlike linseed oil, it
will not discolor over time. It does not
produce any VOC’s and has been approved for “food contact” areas by the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration! The natural
properties of this oil make it an ideal water repellent and wood protector
without harming the environment. This
oil is pure Chinese Tung Oil that has not been diluted. It can be thinned using our Citrus
Solvent for a truly green application.
The regular Tung Oil can be mixed with this dark Tung Oil for shading variations for a custom tint. Start with the dark Tung Oil in a separate container and add the regular Tung Oil in small increments. Mix thoroughly to avoid streaking. We recommend you measure all amounts in order to duplicate your custom shade for future use.

Application:
The surface should be dusted to remove all loose particles. An optional sanding of the first coat can be
done prior to applying the second coat. All
nail-hole filling, sealing, or staining must be done before the oil is applied.
The first coat should be applied liberally with a clean soft rag or wool
applicator. Allow this application to
sit for 20 minutes so the oil can absorb into the surface. Remove any excess with clean soft rags. Remove any excess oil after approximately 30
to 60 more minutes. For best results,
let dry completely (24 to 48 hours depending on surface porosity and
temperature) between coats.
The number of coats of oil to be applied will be determined by the
intended use of the piece. Two to four coats are enough for decorative work,
paneling and moulding. Surfaces that
receive moderate to heavy use or handling could need up
to six coats for maximum protection, plus a light renewal coat once a
year. For optimal performance, apply
until the surface reaches its saturation point. This will provide a surface that will repel
water and protect the material for many years. |
